United For Bikes
Bikes are a simple solution to complex problems, whether it's improving health or avoiding urban gridlock in the U.S. or trying to reach a healthcare clinic in rural Africa.
This Bike Month, PeopleForBikes and World Bicycle Relief are teaming up to change lives through the power of bicycles, locally and globally.
Donations made to the campaign through May 31 will be split 50/50 to benefit the national U.S. bike movement PeopleForBikes and the global bicycle programming of World Bicycle Relief.
We don’t want to sound like your parents, but access and the ability to ride your bike safely doesn’t grow on trees. If you want to ride your bike and enjoy its freedoms, you have to fight for it. You have to convince corporations, towns and cities to shed the car-only mentality and provide facilities and funding for two-wheeled, human-powered transport. This takes a lot of time, effort and resources.
Luckily, there are organizations out there whose sole purpose is to further the needs of cyclists. They exist to ensure that bikers get fair and equal representation, to lobby for alternate transport funding and to ensure that beautiful swaths of countryside remain open to pedal-powered pursuits.
Below, you’ll find a few people who are fighting for us. Now is the time to help influence the direction of cycling as an alternate form of transport and recreation. Help support those who spend every waking moment creating more ways for all of us to enjoy our bicycles.
We support these organizations, and we ask you to assist too.
Imagine one million people signing a petition in support of a better future for bicycling in the United States. We’ve partnered with People for Bikes to make that happen. By sending a unified message to our elected leaders, the media and the public, we can tell them that bicycling is important. With your help, we can ensure that our sport is properly promoted, funded and supported. More rider friendly communities, bike lanes and bike paths equal safety and fitness for all of us. We’re supporting Bikes Belong and its mission to get more people riding bicycles. Since 1999, they’ve focused their efforts on advocating for more funding for new bicycle facilities that would increase bike riding, boost public health and strengthen the bike business. Their goal: creating safe places to ride so more people will bike, and bike more often. Learn more at http://bikesbelong.org/
